Heatwave
A severe heatwave is expected to hit North India, with Punjab, Delhi, and other states facing scorching temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Punjab from April 7 to 10 and Delhi till April 9.
- Temperature Rise: Temperatures in Delhi are expected to soar to 42°C on April 8 and 9, while Punjab has recorded a maximum temperature of 39.7°C in the past 24 hours.
- Affected States: Heatwave conditions are predicted in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
- Yellow Alert: IMD has issued a yellow alert for Punjab and Delhi, indicating a severe heatwave warning.
- Delhi: Temperature are expected to hover between 37°C and 40°C from April 10 to 13.
- Punjab: A further rise in maximum temperature is expected over the next three days, followed by a fall of two to three degrees.
- Rainfall: Parts of Punjab may experience rain, thunderstorms, and lightning on April 10 and 11 due to a western disturbance.
- Western Himalayan Region: A fresh western disturbance is expected from April 8, bringing down day temperatures slightly in parts of North India.
- Neighbouring Regions: Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely over HP, J&K, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand from April 9 to 11.
- Day Temperatures: Above normal by 3.1 to 6 notches in Punjab and 5-8°C over most parts of J&K, HP, Rajasthan, Delhi, Ladakh, and some parts of Haryana and Chandigarh.
- Night Temperatures: Above normal in all districts of Punjab, with deviations ranging from 1.6 to 4.4°C.
- Ludhiana's Ballowal Saunkhri: Recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 17.1°C during this period.
- North-West India: The average maximum temperature during the month remained higher at 28.99°C, against the normal of 27.64°C.
- Average Minimum Temperature: 17.79°C, against the normal of 16.94°C.
